Former President Donald Trump is safe after shots were fired near his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, September 15, 2024. The Secret Service is investigating the incident.
According to sources, initial reports indicated two people were firing at each other outside the course. However, it was later revealed that the Secret Service agent was the only shooter. The agent opened fire upon spotting a suspicious individual on the Trump International Golf Course who appeared to be carrying a gun. The man was arrested by local police on the I-95. His motives are currently unknown.
The Trump campaign issued a statement confirming that shots were fired near the golf course as Trump was leaving. “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” said Steven Cheung, Trump Campaign Communications Director.
The White House confirmed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident and are relieved to know that Trump is safe.
This incident comes after a previous shooting attempt at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, where Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, killing one person and injuring others, including Trump. The shooter was killed on site, leading to multiple investigations and the resignation of the Secret Service’s then-director, Kimberly Cheatle.
